Pathaan Review: Shah Rukh Khan's Comeback Performance in a Massy, Messy, and Entertaining Spy Thriller
"Shah Rukh Khan shines in over-the-top spy thriller 'Pathaan'"
After a four-year hiatus from the big screen, Shah Rukh Khan makes a comeback in "Pathaan," a globetrotting spy thriller that features exaggerated action and chase sequences, death-defying stunts, and punchy dialogues. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film revolves around the origin story of Pathaan, an ex-army man turned undercover agent, and his arch-nemesis, Jim, played by John Abraham.
While the film's script and visual effects fall short of expectations, SRK's presence and John Abraham's solid portrayal of Jim make up for these shortcomings. Deepika Padukone is perfectly cast as a morally ambiguous double-crossing agent, but her chemistry with SRK is underdeveloped.
Despite its flaws, "Pathaan" offers all the ingredients of a classic masala potboiler, including iconic battles of good versus bad, slow-motion entries, and a sexy, smouldering Shah Rukh Khan who can fight the good fight both on and off the screen. So if you're willing to overlook the film's frivolous dialogues, "Pathaan" is a must-watch for all SRK fans and lovers of over-the-top action thrillers.
